A question we are often asked is: “Can an interior designer truly work alongside a Feng Shui master without compromising the beauty of the design?” Khun Man Karin’s residence became our answer to that question.

When function, design and Feng Shui become one
The challenge of this project was never about choosing between aesthetics, functionality and belief. It was about finding a way for all three to coexist naturally and meaningfully within the same home.
From the very beginning of the design process, the interior design team worked closely with the Feng Shui master, consulting one another step by step. Rather than simply following a list of Feng Shui requirements, we first sought to understand the reasoning and intention behind each principle. We could then reinterpret those requirements through the language of contemporary interior design.
From spatial planning and orientation to door positions, circulation, furniture placement, proportions, colours, materials, lighting and even the smallest architectural details, every element was considered to respond at once to the owner’s lifestyle, the functionality of the home and his personal beliefs.
Translating belief into design
There was one particularly important request from Khun Man: he did not want anyone entering the house to recognise that it had been designed according to Feng Shui. This became one of the most interesting aspects of the project. Our role, therefore, was not simply to hide the belief, but to translate belief into design.
Certain Feng Shui requirements were integrated into architectural details. Others were resolved through furniture composition, material transitions, lighting, proportion, visual balance or spatial relationships. Instead of appearing as obvious Feng Shui solutions, these elements became an inseparable part of the interior architecture. What begins as a matter of belief ultimately appears as a natural design decision.
For a visitor, the residence may simply feel contemporary, sophisticated, calm and well balanced. There are no obvious symbols or visual clues suggesting that Feng Shui has influenced the space. For the owner, however, every element has a reason, and every detail carries meaning.
Belief as a design parameter
The project demonstrates that an interior designer and a Feng Shui master do not need to work from opposing perspectives. When both parties communicate closely from the beginning and understand the intentions behind each decision, belief does not have to become a limitation on creativity. It can become another layer of information — another design parameter that gives the space greater depth, individuality and meaning.
Ultimately, this residence is not about making Feng Shui visible. It is about creating a home where function, aesthetics and belief become so seamlessly integrated that they can no longer be separated. Belief is not displayed. It is translated into design.

Commissioning Grand Bangkok Boulevard interior design
A detached house in the Grand Bangkok Boulevard development, Bangkok. Gratitude Design carried the interior from concept through design development, construction documentation and FF&E — every wall finish, ceiling, joinery piece, light fitting and loose furniture item was planned, specified and coordinated by the studio, with the Feng Shui master consulted at each stage.
