Hotel and Hospitality Interior Design in Bangkok

Hotel interior design in Bangkok is judged twice. Once by the guest, in the ninety seconds between the door and the bed, and again by the operator, every day for the next decade.

Those two judgements pull in different directions, and reconciling them is the work. A lobby has to feel generous and still let a housekeeping trolley pass. A guest room has to read as calm while accommodating a safe, a minibar, a luggage bench and a bathroom that drains properly. We design for both readings, which means the operational brief is on the table at the first meeting rather than raised as an objection later.

Where hotel interior design in Bangkok goes wrong

Maintenance is designed in or designed out. A finish that looks superb on opening day and cannot be cleaned is a defect, not a detail. We specify for a decade of use, and say so when a preferred material will not survive it.

Back of house sets the ceiling on front of house. If the service route from kitchen to function room crosses guest circulation, no amount of finish will fix the experience. Those routes are drawn first.

Lighting carries the atmosphere, and it is usually the first thing cut. Layered lighting on separate circuits — so a lobby can be one room at breakfast and another at ten in the evening — costs comparatively little at design stage and cannot be retrofitted cheaply.

The food and beverage record

Hotel practice and restaurant practice share most of their problems — covers, service routes, acoustics, a fixed opening date — and the studio’s fuller record sits on the F&B side. It is the more useful evidence of how we work.

Kilik Social Club — hospitality interior design in Bangkok by Gratitude Design

Kilik Social Club — A 280 sq m restaurant and cocktail bar in Phrom Phong, taken from bare shell to opening night under a single turn-key contract and open to the public in December 2022.

CRU Wine Bar Chidlom — Wine bar and restaurant, Chidlom, Bangkok.

Seafood Club Bangsaen — hospitality interior design in Bangkok by Gratitude Design

More of this work is set out on restaurant and bar interior design, and the full record is on the portfolio.

One contract from sketch to opening day

Hotel and F&B programmes are unforgiving about dates. An opening is announced, staff are hired, and the design has to survive contact with a site running to someone else’s schedule.

Our turn-key route puts design and construction under one contract, with our own site supervision and our own FF&E ordering — one point of responsibility instead of a negotiation between drawing and site, and one party accountable for the opening date. Where an owner prefers to appoint their own contractor, we document the project completely enough for it to be tendered and built without us. Both routes are set out under services.
