Restaurant and Bar Interior Design in Bangkok

Restaurant interior design in Bangkok tends to fail in one of two ways: the room is beautiful but cannot serve, or it serves efficiently and nobody wants to stay past the first drink. Every project on this page was planned against both.

We start from covers, service routes and the licence — where the bar sits, how far a server walks with three plates, where the extract can physically go — and only then choose materials. It is an unglamorous order of operations, and it is the reason these rooms still work on a full Friday.

What a hospitality room has to do

A dining room has to turn tables without feeling as though it is turning them. That is a planning problem before it is a decorative one: the distance between banquettes, whether a two-top can become a four, how a guest waiting at the door experiences the first ten seconds.

Lighting does most of the work, and most of it is invisible. We light drinks, hands and faces rather than floors — a ribbon set into a counter edge, an arch lit from within, the apex of a roof left deliberately dark so the ceiling reads as height rather than as a surface covered in downlights.

Acoustics decide whether a room can hold live music. A jazz set needs to reach the back sofa without forcing the tables beside the stage to shout, which means volume overhead to take the energy upward, and upholstery, planting and soft layers to pull reverberation back down to conversation level.

A nightclub reverses almost all of it, and a wine bar reverses it again. The building type is not a style. It is a different set of constraints each time.

Selected restaurant and bar projects

Kilik Social Club — Restaurant and cocktail bar, Phrom Phong, Bangkok. 280 sq m taken from bare shell to opening night under a single turnkey contract. The warehouse volume was kept for its height, with a painted mural and a hand-dyed organza drape doing the work of a ceiling. Opened December 2022; the Bangkok Post invited readers to enter an “enchanted forest”.

MU:IN Bangkok — Nightclub, Bangkok.

CRU Wine Bar Chidlom — Wine bar and restaurant, Chidlom, Bangkok.

Seafood Club Bangsaen — Restaurant and bar, Bangsaen, Chonburi. Architecture and landscape formed part of the same commission.

Beer Collection — Craft beer bar and restaurant, Hua Hin. 320 sq m designed around a working beer list, with the refrigeration treated as display rather than hidden and a pleated ceiling installation giving a flat shell a horizon. Completed 2023.

Why turn-key matters on a fit-out

A planted, layered room is exactly where a budget goes to be value-engineered. The greenery thins, the joinery simplifies, the lighting flattens — and each of those decisions is taken on site, by someone who was not in the room when the concept was agreed.

Running design and construction as one commission removes that negotiation. Every trade-off is resolved by the designer rather than against the design, and the studio carries a single price and a single opening date. Most of the built record on this page was delivered that way.
